Ingredients
Essential Ingredients:
-
1 cup mashed ripe bananas
-
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
-
1 cup packed brown sugar
-
1 large egg
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tsp baking soda
-
½ tsp salt
Optional Add-ins:
-
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
-
½ cup chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
-
Cream butter and sugar: In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Add wet ingredients: Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas until combined.
-
Combine: Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir until just combined. Fold in optional add-ins like walnuts or chocolate chips if using.
-
Chill dough: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm the dough and prevent spreading.
-
Scoop and bake: Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until golden brown at the edges.
-
Cool: Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For softer cookies, avoid overbaking.
Chilling the dough helps control the spread and improves texture.
Very ripe bananas (with brown spots) are ideal for sweetness and flavor.
