Walking Tacos are a fun, customizable, and mess-free twist on traditional tacos. They combine taco meat, cheese, and toppings over corn chips in chip bags or small containers for a flavorful and portable snack or meal. Perfect for weeknights, parties, or game days.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (or shredded chicken, black beans for vegetarian option)
1 tbsp homemade or store-bought taco seasoning
¼ cup water (to keep meat moist in crock pot)
Individual bags of corn chips (Fritos or tortilla chips)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 cup shredded lettuce
½ cup sour cream
½ cup diced onions
Optional toppings: jalapeños, salsa, guacamole, cilantro
Instructions
Cook the Taco Meat: In a skillet, cook ground beef until browned. Drain fat, then stir in taco seasoning and ¼ cup water. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Keep Warm: Transfer taco meat to a crock pot to keep warm if serving over time.
Assemble: Open each chip bag slightly and gently crush the chips inside. Add a scoop of taco meat directly into the bag.
Add Toppings: Top with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, onions, or other desired toppings.
Serve: Serve immediately with forks.
Notes
Assemble just before serving to avoid soggy chips.
Offer a variety of toppings for guests to customize their own.
Great for taco bars and make-ahead parties.
It can be substituted for beef with shredded chicken, pulled pork, or vegetarian options.
