Description

A warm, hearty casserole that combines savory ground beef, tender rice, and the rich flavors of French onion soup. It’s an easy and economical comfort food perfect for family dinners and leftovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) beef consommé

  • 1 tablespoon garlic salt (or to taste)

  • 2 tablespoons butter (sliced)

  • Optional: shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, etc.)

  • Optional: sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers (for variation)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef with garlic salt until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat.

  3. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, mix the uncooked rice, cooked beef, French onion soup, beef consommé, and 1 cup water. Stir until well combined.

  4. Dot the top with slices of butter. If using cheese, you may mix some in or sprinkle it on top.

  5. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

  6. Remove foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the rice is tender.

  7. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can assemble the casserole ahead and refrigerate or freeze it.

Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.

Add mushrooms or bell peppers for extra nutrition.

Use any cheese of choice to change up the flavor.
