Description

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 3 cups
  • Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ground ginger – 1 tablespoon
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cloves – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ground nutmeg – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter, softened – 3/4 cup
  • Brown sugar – 3/4 cup
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Molasses – 1/2 cup
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar – 1 cup
  • Milk – 1–2 tablespoons


Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and spices in a bowl.
  2. Cream the butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla and mix until smooth.
  4. Mix in the dry ingredients until a thick dough forms.
  5. Chill the dough for at least one hour.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle and slice into strips.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 9–12 minutes.
  8. Cool completely, then drizzle with icing.

Notes

  1. For crisp cookie sticks, roll dough thinner.
  2. For softer sticks, bake one to two minutes less.
  3. Chill dough longer if it becomes sticky while slicing.
