Ingredients
- All-purpose flour – 3 cups
- Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
- Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground ginger – 1 tablespoon
- Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
- Ground cloves – 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg – 1/2 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter, softened – 3/4 cup
- Brown sugar – 3/4 cup
- Egg – 1 large
- Molasses – 1/2 cup
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar – 1 cup
- Milk – 1–2 tablespoons
Instructions
- Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and spices in a bowl.
- Cream the butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla and mix until smooth.
- Mix in the dry ingredients until a thick dough forms.
- Chill the dough for at least one hour.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle and slice into strips.
- Bake at 350°F for 9–12 minutes.
- Cool completely, then drizzle with icing.
Notes
- For crisp cookie sticks, roll dough thinner.
- For softer sticks, bake one to two minutes less.
- Chill dough longer if it becomes sticky while slicing.
