Description
Bold, cheesy, and perfectly spiced, this Jalapeño Cheese Bread combines gooey cheddar with jalapeño heat inside a golden, crusty loaf. It is ideal for snacking, sandwiches, or pairing with soup.
Ingredients
3 cups bread flour
2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
1 ¼ cups warm water (105–110°F)
1 tablespoon sugar
1 ½ teaspoons salt (kosher or sea salt)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or Colby-Jack)
2–3 jalapeños, diced (fresh or pickled)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
Gently flatten the dough and fold in shredded cheese and diced jalapeños.
Shape into a loaf or round and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400°F. Place a pan of water on the bottom rack for steam.
Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Let cool before slicing.
Notes
Keep jalapeño seeds for extra spice, or remove them for a milder flavour.
Pickled jalapeños provide a tangy alternative to fresh.
Use bread flour for the best structure and chew.
To freeze, wrap tightly in plastic and foil and store for up to 3 months.
A Dutch oven or pizza stone helps create a perfect crust.
