Description
A mouthwatering twist on two American classics, Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes combine the juicy goodness of sloppy joes with Philly cheesesteaks’ melty, cheesy richness. This quick and comforting dish features ground beef, sautéed peppers, onions, and provolone cheese, all piled into a warm hoagie roll.
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef (85/15)
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 yellow onion, diced
4 cloves garlic (or 1 tsp garlic powder)
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp ketchup
6 slices of provolone cheese
½ cup low-fat cottage cheese (optional, for added creaminess)
4 tbsp cheddar cheese powder (optional, for flavor boost)
Salt and pepper to taste
6 hoagie rolls or buns
1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
Instructions
Sauté the vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté onions and bell peppers until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook another minute.
Brown the beef: Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until thoroughly browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add sauces and seasonings: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, pepper, and (optional) cottage cheese and cheddar powder. Simmer for 3–5 minutes to blend flavors.
Add cheese: Lay provolone slices over the meat. Cover the pan for 1–2 minutes to let the cheese melt, then stir to mix evenly.
Toast buns (optional): Lightly toast hoagie rolls or buns with garlic butter for added texture.
Assemble: Spoon the cheesy meat mixture into each bun. Serve hot with your favorite side.
Notes
You can use American or cheddar cheese instead of provolone.
For extra veggies, add mushrooms or spinach.
To reduce fat, use ground turkey or lean ground beef (96/4).
Great for meal prep — store meat mixture and buns separately.
