This Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Breast recipe delivers tender, flavorful shredded chicken with minimal effort. Perfect for sandwiches, bowls, salads, or meal prep, it’s a go-to dish for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 ½ cups BBQ sauce
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
Optional additions:
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
Splash of Worcestershire sauce
Diced onions
Instructions
Pat chicken breasts dry and season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Place the chicken in a slow cooker. Pour BBQ sauce over the top and add any optional ingredients.
Cover and cook on low for 4–6 hours or high for 2–3 hours, until the chicken is tender and shreds easily.
Remove chicken and shred using two forks or shredding claws.
Return shredded chicken to the slow cooker, mix with sauce, and keep warm until ready to serve.
Notes
Do not use frozen chicken directly in the slow cooker for food safety reasons.
To avoid dryness, do not overcook. Use a thermometer to check for doneness (165°F internal temperature).
For a richer result, substitute chicken breasts with thighs.
Can be frozen for up to 3 months in airtight containers or bags.
