The casserole is easy to prepare and cooks to perfection in the slow cooker, with a rich, delicious flavor that’s loved by all.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups stale brioche or French bread, cubed

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 6 large eggs

  • 1 3/4 cups milk

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Butter or nonstick spray for greasing

  • Optional powdered sugar or maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  • Grease the slow cooker insert well.

  • Layer half the bread cubes into the slow cooker, then scatter half the sliced strawberries.

  • Repeat with the remaining bread and strawberries.

  • Whisk eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.

  • Slowly pour the custard mixture over the layered bread and berries.

  • Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 hours or on LOW for 3–4 hours until the center is set.

  • Let rest a few minutes before serving with fresh strawberries, powdered sugar, or maple syrup.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread to avoid a mushy texture.

Dry fresh bread in the oven for 10 minutes if needed.

Frozen strawberries may be used if thawed and drained.

Add cream cheese cubes or chopped nuts for extra richness.
