Description

Soft, chewy, and frosted sugar cookie bars baked in one pan for a simple, crowd-pleasing dessert that tastes like classic sugar cookies with less effort.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • For the Frosting:
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: food coloring and sprinkles


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
  4. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl, then add to wet mixture.
  5. Spread dough evenly in the prepared pan and bake 18–22 minutes, until edges are golden and center is set.
  6. Cool completely before frosting.
  7. Beat frosting ingredients together until smooth and fluffy.
  8. Spread frosting evenly over cooled bars and top with sprinkles.
  9. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  1. Do not overbake; bars should look slightly soft in the center.
  2. For cleaner cuts, chill bars before slicing.
  3. You can freeze unfrosted bars up to 2 months.
