Description

This whipped hot chocolate recipe combines a warm milk base with a fluffy whipped chocolate topping for a cozy, cafe-style drink you can make at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons hot cocoa mix
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • Mini marshmallows (optional, for topping)
  • Crushed candy canes (optional, for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Chill a medium mixing bowl in the refrigerator for a few minutes to help the cream whip quickly.
  2. Add the heavy whipping cream, hot cocoa mix, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract to the chilled bowl.
  3. Beat the mixture with a hand mixer until it forms soft or stiff peaks, depending on how fluffy you want the whipped topping.
  4. Pour the whole milk and half-and-half into a small saucepan.
  5. Warm the milk mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until it is steaming but not boiling.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and taste the milk, adjusting sweetness if needed.
  7. Pour the hot milk mixture into a heat-safe mug.
  8. Spoon a generous amount of the whipped chocolate topping over the hot milk.
  9. Garnish the drink with mini marshmallows, crushed candy canes, or chocolate shavings if desired.
  10. Serve right away and stir the whipped topping into the hot chocolate as you drink.

Notes

  1. For a lighter drink, use 2% milk instead of whole milk or skip the half-and-half.
  2. For a stronger chocolate flavor, replace the hot cocoa mix with unsweetened cocoa powder and add extra sugar to taste.
  3. To keep the whipped topping stable longer, whip the cream to firm peaks and serve the drink with warm, not boiling, milk.
