Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (26-ounce) package crispy chicken tenders or chicken breast cutlets
  • 12 slider rolls
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter, melted
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced or 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning or oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 12 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup thick marinara sauce, plus more for serving
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the chicken tenders or cutlets according to package directions and let cool slightly.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 12×8-inch baking dish.
  3. Slice the slider rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves in the baking dish.
  4. Mix the melted butter, garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Brush the garlic butter generously over the bottom rolls.
  6. Layer half of the mozzarella cheese over the rolls, then spread half of the marinara sauce on top.
  7. Arrange the cooked chicken evenly over the sauce and drizzle with the remaining marinara.
  8. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of Parmesan cheese and top with the remaining mozzarella slices.
  9. Place the top buns over the cheese and brush with the remaining garlic butter.
  10. Sprinkle the tops with the remaining Parmesan cheese.
  11. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and bake for 3 to 5 minutes, until the tops are lightly golden and the cheese is melted.
  13. Let rest briefly, then cut along the rolls and serve warm with extra marinara.

  2. For a lighter version, use light butter and substitute breaded chicken with chopped rotisserie chicken.
