Description

A hearty English muffin breakfast pizza layered with creamy sawmill gravy, fluffy scrambled eggs, savory sausage, and melted cheddar cheese. Comforting, filling, and perfect for cozy mornings or breakfast for dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 package English muffins, split
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 8 ounces mild cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sausage drippings or butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

  1. Cook the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until fully browned, then remove it and reserve about 1/4 cup of the drippings in the pan.
  2. Add the flour to the hot drippings and stir constantly, cooking until the mixture turns lightly golden and smells nutty.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk and cook until the gravy thickens, then season with salt and pepper and keep warm.
  4. Lightly toast the English muffins until just golden and set aside.
  5. Scramble the eggs gently in a nonstick skillet until just set but still soft.
  6. Arrange the toasted English muffins on a baking sheet and top each with gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, and a slice of cheddar cheese.
  7. Place under a hot broiler and cook until the cheese is melted and bubbling, then serve immediately.

Notes

  1. Toast the English muffins before assembling to prevent sogginess.
  2. If using lean sausage, add butter to make enough drippings for the gravy.
