- 10 oz ground beef
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, pressed
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 8 oz pizza sauce
- 4 hamburger buns, split
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 420°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the chopped onion until softened.
- Add the garlic and ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until no longer pink.
- Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper, then stir in the pizza sauce.
- Let the mixture simmer until thick and well combined.
- Place the split buns cut-side up on the baking sheet and spoon the meat mixture evenly over each half.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly and the buns are lightly toasted.
Notes
- The meat and sauce mixture can be made up to 2 days in advance and refrigerated.
- To prevent soggy buns, use a thick pizza sauce and let the filling reduce well.
- Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat best in the oven.
