Description
A braided jalapeño cheese bread with a crackly crust, gooey cheddar, and real jalapeño heat. Soft, enriched dough designed to hold cheese and spice without drying out.
Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 fresh jalapeño, minced
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Add 2 cups of flour and salt to a mixing bowl.
- Heat water, milk, and butter until just warm and butter is melted.
- Stir in sugar and yeast and let stand until frothy.
- Add yeast mixture and egg to flour and mix to form a soft dough.
- Gradually add remaining flour as needed and knead until smooth.
- Let dough rest, then roll into a rectangle.
- Sprinkle with garlic salt, jalapeño, cheddar, and Parmesan.
- Roll into a log, slice lengthwise, and twist with cut sides facing up.
- Place in a greased loaf pan and let rise until doubled.
- Bake at 350°F until golden brown, covering loosely if needed.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheese for best melt.
- If using salted butter, reduce added salt slightly.
- Let bread cool slightly before slicing for clean cuts.
