Description
This bold and zesty jalapeno relish perfectly combines spicy, sweet, and tangy flavors. Made with fresh jalapenos, onions, vinegar, and sugar, it’s a versatile condiment for burgers, hot dogs, grilled meats, and more.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh jalapenos, stems removed and deseeded (about 12)
- 1 medium onion (white or yellow), chopped
- 2 garlic cloves (optional)
- 1 cup white vinegar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp mustard seeds (optional)
- 1 tsp celery seed (optional)
Instructions
-
Remove stems and most seeds from the jalapenos, then roughly chop them with the onion and garlic.
-
Add the vegetables to a food processor and pulse until finely chopped (do not puree).
-
Transfer the mixture to a saucepan. Add vinegar, sugar, salt, mustard seeds, and celery seed.
-
Bring to a simmer and cook uncovered for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
-
Let cool before transferring to sterilized jars. Store in the refrigerator or a can for shelf storage.
Notes
- Remove all seeds and membranes from the jalapenos for milder heat or swap in bell peppers.
- To preserve for long-term use, follow a proper water bath canning method with sterilized jars.
- Great as a dip mix-in, egg topping, or sandwich spread.
